📊 Confronti

-er vs more

Aggettivi corti → -er; aggettivi lunghi → more.

bigger, faster, cheaper neutro 5
più grande, più veloce, più economico
Aggettivi corti (1 sillaba, o 2 sillabe che finiscono in -y) prendono "-er".
This car is faster than mine.Questa macchina è più veloce della mia.
It's cheaper to cook at home.È più economico cucinare a casa.
📣 Occhio all'ortografia: happy→happier (y→i), big→bigger (raddoppio consonante).
more expensive, more interesting neutro 5
più costoso, più interessante
Aggettivi lunghi (2+ sillabe che non finiscono in -y) prendono "more".
This hotel is more expensive than the other one.Questo hotel è più caro dell'altro.
Her job is more interesting than mine.
📣 Errore comune: "more bigger" ❌ (doppio comparativo) → scegli SOLO "-er" O "more", mai insieme.
less + aggettivo neutro 4
meno + aggettivo
Opposto di "more", per dire "meno". Vale per qualsiasi aggettivo, corto o lungo.
This option is less risky.Questa opzione è meno rischiosa.
He's less confident than his brother.È meno sicuro di sé di suo fratello.
📣 Alternativa naturale a "not as...as": "less risky" = "not as risky".

Comparativi irregolari

good → better → the best neutro 5
buono → migliore → il migliore
Irregolare più comune. "Better" non "gooder".
This restaurant is better than the last one.Questo ristorante è migliore dell'ultimo.
She's the best student in the class.È la migliore studentessa della classe.
📣 "Better" da solo è anche una risposta comune: "How are you? — Better, thanks" (sto meglio).
bad → worse → the worst neutro 5
cattivo/brutto → peggiore → il peggiore
Irregolare comune. "Worse" non "badder".
The traffic is worse today.Il traffico oggi è peggiore.
That was the worst film I've seen this year.È stato il film peggiore che ho visto quest'anno.
far → further/farther → the furthest/farthest neutro 3
The station is further than I thought.
Let's not discuss this further.
farther (solo distanza fisica)
little → less → the least neutro 3
poco → meno → il minimo
Con quantità non numerabili: opposto di much/more/most.
I have less time than you.Ho meno tempo di te.
That's the least of my problems.Quello è l'ultimo dei miei problemi.
📣 "The least" spesso in espressioni fisse: "at least" (almeno), "the least I can do" (il minimo che posso fare).
many/much → more → the most neutro 4
molto/molti → di più → il massimo
Comparativo e superlativo comuni sia a "many" che a "much".
He earns more than me.Guadagna più di me.
She's the one who works the most.È quella che lavora di più.
📣 "More" da solo per offrire ancora qualcosa: "Do you want more?" (ne vuoi ancora?).

As...as / uguaglianze e differenze

as...as neutro 5
tanto...quanto, uguale a
She's as tall as her brother.È alta quanto suo fratello.
This test was as hard as the last one.
📣 Errore comune: "as taller as" ❌ → forma base "as tall as" ✅.
not as...as neutro 5
This café isn't as good as the one downtown.
He isn't as tall as his dad.Non è alto quanto suo padre.
📣 Alternativa naturale a un comparativo negativo: "not as good as" = "worse than", ma più diplomatico.
the same as neutro 4
lo stesso di, uguale a
⚠ Identità completa, non solo somiglianza. Seguito da "as", non da "than" o "that".
My phone is the same as yours.Il mio telefono è uguale al tuo.
It's not the same as before.Non è uguale a prima.
📣 Errore tipico: "the same than" ❌ / "the same that" ❌ → "the same AS" ✅.
similar to neutro 4
simile a
⚠ Somiglianza parziale, non identità. Seguito da "to", non da "as" o "with".
Your accent is similar to mine.Il tuo accento è simile al mio.
This model is similar to the older one.Questo modello è simile a quello vecchio.
📣 "Similar to", non "similar as" ❌ né "similar with" ❌: memorizza la preposizione giusta.
different from neutro 5
diverso da
⚠ Preposizione "from" (standard), anche se nel parlato americano si sente anche "different than".
This job is very different from my last one.Questo lavoro è molto diverso dal precedente.
Her opinion is different from mine.La sua opinione è diversa dalla mia.
📣 In BrE: "different from/to". In AmE si sente spesso "different than". Evita "different that" ❌.
different than (informale, AmE)different to (BrE)

the best I've ever seen informale 5
That's the best pizza I've ever had.È la pizza migliore che abbia mai mangiato.
It's the funniest movie I've ever watched.È il film più divertente che abbia mai visto.
📣 📣 Schema fisso da automatizzare: "the [superlativo] + nome + I've ever + participio passato".
the worst thing that's ever happened informale 4
la cosa peggiore che sia mai successa
Stessa struttura, versione negativa/peggiorativa. Il soggetto della relativa determina l'ausiliare.
This is the worst coffee I've ever tasted.È il caffè peggiore che abbia mai assaggiato.
the tallest, the most beautiful neutro 5
Quasi sempre con "the".
He's the tallest player on the team.È il giocatore più alto della squadra.
It's the most beautiful place I know.È il posto più bello che conosca.
📣 Come per i comparativi, non mischiare "-est" e "most" insieme: "the most tallest" ❌.
one of the best neutro 4
uno dei migliori
⚠ Seguito da un NOME PLURALE, anche se il senso è singolare: "one of the best restaurants" non "restaurant".
It's one of the best restaurants in town.È uno dei migliori ristoranti in città.
She's one of the smartest people I know.È una delle persone più intelligenti che conosca.
📣 Errore comune: dimenticare la "-s" sul nome dopo "one of the" perché in italiano non "sembra" plurale.

The more...the more, doppi comparativi, by far

the more...the more neutro 4
The more you practice, the better you get.Più ti eserciti, più migliori.
The more I think about it, the less I like it.Più ci penso, meno mi piace.
📣 Struttura molto comune e naturale: perfetta per dare consigli o fare osservazioni.
better and better / more and more neutro 4
Her English is getting better and better.
It's getting more and more difficult.Sta diventando sempre più difficile.
📣 Con "-er" ripeti l'aggettivo ("bigger and bigger"); con "more" ripeti "more" ("more and more expensive").
by far neutro 3
She's by far the best candidate.È di gran lunga la migliore candidata.
This is by far the most expensive option.
📣 Va prima o dopo il superlativo: "by far the best" o "the best by far", entrambi naturali.
much / a bit + comparativo neutro 5
molto / un po' + comparativo
"Much" intensifica molto ("much easier" = molto più facile); "a bit" attenua ("a bit easier" = un po' più facile).
This version is much easier to use.
It's a bit more expensive than I expected.È un po' più caro di quanto mi aspettassi.
📣 ⚠ Mai "very" davanti a un comparativo: "very easier" ❌ → "much easier" ✅.
a lot easier (informale)slightly easier (formale, leggermente)
far + comparativo neutro 3
molto, di gran lunga + comparativo
Alternativa colloquiale a "much" per intensificare un comparativo.
This is far better than the old model.Questo è molto meglio del vecchio modello.
📣 Interscambiabile con "much" per rafforzare: "far better" = "much better".

Altri modi di confrontare

Espressioni utili che completano il quadro: prefer, would rather, twice as, less and less.

prefer X to Y neutro 5
preferire X a Y
Modo diretto di esprimere una preferenza tra due cose, con "to" (non "than").
I prefer tea to coffee.Preferisco il tè al caffè.
She prefers walking to driving.Preferisce camminare piuttosto che guidare.
📣 ⚠ "Prefer X than Y" è un errore comune: la preposizione corretta è "to".
would rather informale 5
preferirei
I'd rather stay home tonight.Preferirei restare a casa stasera.
She'd rather walk than drive.
twice as...as / half as...as neutro 3
due volte più di / la metà di
Confronto proporzionale con un numero: raddoppia o dimezza il paragone "as...as".
This flat is twice as big as mine.
It costs half as much as I expected.Costa la metà di quanto mi aspettassi.
📣 Utile anche con altri numeri: "three times as expensive as" = tre volte più caro di.
less and less neutro 4
sempre meno
Comparativo doppio negativo, opposto di "more and more": un calo progressivo.
I have less and less free time these days.Ho sempre meno tempo libero ultimamente.
He seems less and less interested.Sembra sempre meno interessato.
📣 Parallelo naturale a "more and more" / "better and better": stesso schema, senso opposto.
nowhere near as...as informale 3
per niente così...come, lontanissimo dall'essere
Rafforza "not as...as" in modo enfatico: una differenza enorme, non piccola.
This place is nowhere near as good as the last one.
slightly / considerably + comparativo formale 3
leggermente / notevolmente + comparativo
The new model is slightly more expensive.Il nuovo modello è leggermente più caro.
Sales were considerably higher this year.
just as...as neutro 4
proprio tanto quanto, altrettanto
Rafforza "as...as" per dire che due cose sono sullo stesso livello, senza sminuire la seconda.
This one is just as good as the expensive one.Questo è altrettanto buono di quello costoso.
📣 Utile per fare un complimento indiretto: "just as good as" suggerisce una sorpresa positiva.
getting worse / getting better neutro 5
peggiorare / migliorare (progressivamente)
"Get" + comparativo = un cambiamento che avanza nel tempo, molto comune nel parlato.
The situation is getting worse.La situazione sta peggiorando.
Things are getting better.
